Things I’m Hopelessly Addicted To

- Cholula hot sauce I used to order it from Mexico, two cases at a time. It makes almost anything taste better. I recommend it on eggs, meats, or any under-seasoned Mexican delivery food. (Pro tip: Fill a shot glass with ‘Lula, crack a roasted-in-the-shell peanut about halfway, dip, enjoy.)
- Amazon Prime Combined with One-Click buying, it will prevent me from ever retiring. But I am not waiting 6-10 days.
- Now & Laters My all-time favorite candy, Sugar Daddies being a close second. They’re maddeningly difficult to find in the wild, and they seem softer and more taffy-like than they were back in the day. That makes me sad.
- Nicotine lozenges You’re technically only supposed to use these for twelve weeks. Ha.
- The internet My Google Reader feeds alone…yeesh.
- Peppermint-stick ice cream Again, not easy to find, but I will eat it until I’m sick, any time, day or night. I’ve never seen it in New York, actually, so if you have the means, you have my permission to have a quart or two packed in dry ice and shipped to me. No pressure!
- Blog stats The real pleasure of having a blog is seeing the Google searches that bring strangers to your site. Some of my favorites from the past few months: tom waits soccer (I’d like to see him try), picters of ciggerettes (so close!), incent sex galleries stills (ew! for spelling and intent!), and wil wheaton furry (something you want to share, Mr. Wheaton?).
- Editing I fix grammar, punctuation, and usage all day long, and that’s not something you can just turn off. My free time is spent mentally copyediting menus, TV captions, and, worst of all, the internet. Reading YouTube comments is like waterboarding myself.
I’m sure there are more, but this’ll do for now. How about you?

I usually come up with a handful of possibilities each week, and usually at least one that I’m comfortable with submitting. Unfortunately, I don’t seem to be addicted to actually submitting them, because I rarely do.

I thought about adding coffee to my list, but these days I only drink one big mug of it in the morning. For someone who used to drink three pots a day, that’s practically abstinence. Now that smoking is gone too, my URL feels like more of a lie each day.

I totally hear you on the Cholula. Two weeks ago, I was craving hot sauce daily. As a matter of fact, I finished it off. I’ll get a bottle of Cholula this weekend. I don’t think I’ll be dipping any peanuts, though.
I like Sugar Daddies too, but they feel like they’re yanking my teeth out. I prefer the Babies.
Peppermint-stick ice cream MUST be widely available around the winter holidays, no? I mean, good Lord, in NYC you haven’t seen any of that business? Crazy!
I’ll second SleekPelt on the coffee addiction. I guess my other current addictions would be any Law & Order show and Deadliest Catch.

my favorite hot sauce of the moment is Rancho Gordo’s “Gay Caballero” hot sauce. Not insanely spicy but it’s genuinely delicious.

Susan, you lucked out - I read your comment after proofing a particularly terrible couple of pages this morning. You know how your pupil constricts in sunlight and then you walk into a dark room and can’t make out any details of your surroundings? That’s what it was like. My editing pupil was constricted by a blazing supernova of grammatical inadequacy.

I concur on the Cholula. It’s a staple in the Overking pantry. I used to be a Crystal hot sauce guy, but the ‘Lula has a tanginess that’s addictive.
Nicotine lozenges - I keep under the coffee table with the intention to quit smoking someday. Then the cherry goodness made my mouth numb, and I realized that if I did this more often, I’d be replacing one bad habit with yet another. So they sit there, waiting their turn.
Blog stats - Yep, although I mainly keep track for work stuff…I use statcounter.
Now & Laters - Hated them then, still hate ‘em now. But I do remember them littering your apt. and thinking it was odd
