Things I’m Hopelessly Addicted To

- Cholula hot sauce I used to order it from Mexico, two cases at a time. It makes almost anything taste better. I recommend it on eggs, meats, or any under-seasoned Mexican delivery food. (Pro tip: Fill a shot glass with ‘Lula, crack a roasted-in-the-shell peanut about halfway, dip, enjoy.)
- Amazon Prime Combined with [...]

James Lileks on Walt Disney World

I’m not shy about my love for Disney World. My family made the trip from Pittsburgh to Orlando every few years when I was growing up, and it was worth every single 17-hour drive (Dad’s not big on the air travel).
Columnist and blogger James Lileks has written about Disney before, and he just finished a [...]

LostWinds is the new Portal

LostWinds is the new Portal

Okay, that might be an overstatement. LostWinds, a new game for the Nintendo Wii, doesn’t quite reinvent a video-game genre or deliver innovative gameplay the way Portal did, but it’s part of the same tiny revolution in console gaming that Valve’s miniature masterpiece exemplifies.

I could seriously listen to that music all day.
Both Portal and LostWinds [...]

Three Songs That Should Be in Grand Theft Auto IV

Yesterday I gave you my favorites from the game, so today we’ve got three songs I would’ve liked to see make the cut. To qualify for consideration, songs had to be appropriate for extended car chases, ultra-violent urban crime sprees, or both simultaneously. In the spirit of the game, they also had to include at [...]

The Three Best Songs in Grand Theft Auto IV

Mix-tape apps seem to be the hot new thing, and while I’ve already talked about (and really like) Muxtape, I’m also having a lot of fun with Mixwit. My main complaint about Muxtape is that it doesn’t offer any kind of widget for off-site use, but Mixwit’s got that covered. It lacks some flexibility - [...]

Game Review: Professor Layton and the Curious Village

One of my duties at Racer X is compiling and contributing to the CD-review page of our AV Room section. Beginning with the June ‘08 issue, we’re also printing a monthly video-game review, generally written by yours truly. I’ll try to reprint them here as often as I can, starting … now!

Professor Layton and the [...]

This is how you announce a tour

It’s been almost ten years since I first saw Tom Waits in concert. I was in the back row of the Beacon Theatre here in New York, and at the start of the show, Tom burst through the back door - not five feet away - screaming through a megaphone and tossing handfuls of glitter [...]

Early Impressions: Grand Theft Auto IV

News about the just-released Grand Theft Auto IV has been inescapable this week. I got my copy (PS3 edition) on Thursday and have been able to spend a few hours with it so far. It’s far too early for me to have a solid opinion about the game - for a game this large, that [...]

Saturday is Free Comic Book Day

Saturday is Free Comic Book Day

And it’s just what it sounds like: a day when your local comics retailer will give you free comic books. I’m not familiar with everything on the list, but I can definitely recommend Grant Morrison’s All-Star Superman, which will be available at all the participating shops. If that’s not your thing, talk to some people [...]
